Edakkal caves are situated among the Ambukuthi mountains near Ambalavayal. 3 caves are located at a height of 1000 meters on Ambukuthimala. The name Edakkal literary means `` A stone in between``. It contains some interesting carvings which represent human and animal figures. The caves can be accessed only by 1 km trekking trail from Edakkal. It is estimated to be 7000 years old.
